Cooperation between BADEA & Burundi
Khartoum, Sudan, November 25, 2019. The Director-General of the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) H.E. Dr Sidi Ould TAH, received in his office, a High Ministerial delegation from the Republic of Burundi, led by H.E. Jean Marie RURIMURIJE, Senior Advisor to the Presidency, H.E. M. Dr Domitien NDIHOKUBWAYO, Minister of Finance, Budget and Privatisation and H. E. M. Jean Bosco NTUNZWENIMANA, Minister of Transport, Public Works, Equipment and Land Development.
The process of co-operation between Burundi and BADEA was the focus of the discussion that took place during the meeting. The visiting delegation briefed the leadership of BADEA on their project’s priorities in all development fields, especially in the field of infrastructure sector (roads).
The delegation expressed their satisfaction to the level of the co-operation with BADEA commending the role that BADEA is playing in helping their country and in Sub-Sahara Africa.
It is worth-mentioning that total amount of BADEA’s financing to Burundi stand at US $ 141 million dollars towards financing 28 development projects.
The total commitments of Arab Financial Institutions to Burundi amounted to about US $ 527.4 million, by the end of June 2018.
BADEA is a financial and development institution owned by 18 Arab States. The Bank’s objective is to contribute to financing the development of African countries members of the Organization of African Union, non-members of the League of Arab States.
BADEA has been operational in 44 African countries and has essentially funded infrastructure, rural development and social projects in the public sector and to some extent the private sector and trade financing. Under BADEA’s 2030 Strategy, the Bank will be implementing a Five Years Plan 2020-2024 with infrastructures; private and trade financing; SMEs, women and youth entrepreneurship, agriculture value-chains are the four major pillars crosscut by capacity development.
